Jenkins

Biography
Imani Jenkins is a multidisciplinary artist who uses fabric, paint, and found materials to navigate and tell stories of her experiences as a young Black woman and mother.
Imani Jenkins was born in Savannah, Georgia, and has had an interest in art since a very young age. At 9 years old, she began cutting fabrics and using hot glue to create custom fashion designs. Her parents noticed her interest in art and design and bought her a handheld sewing machine. Ever since, Imani has been practicing art and as she matures, her artistic practice matures as well.
Acrylic paints, photography, fabric, and found materials all inform her artistic process. Much of her recent art has been multimedia, as she has found great joy in combining different materials to convey one central message. Motherhood, her family, and the shared experiences of Black people in America inspire and shape the stories she continues to tell through her art.
